Responsibly raises $2.4M to enhance AI-driven
sustainability tracking
Introduction:
Copenhagen-based startup Responsibly
has just secured $2.4 million in Seed funding to support its
mission of using AI to help companies be more responsible and assess the sustainability of their
suppliers. The funds will be used to enhance their AI engine, enabling it to capture a wider range
of data and expand its capabilities.
Leading the Seed round are Hambro Perks and Pi Labs, both based in London.
What sets Responsibly apart in the
realm of supply chain sustainability and accountability tracking
is its unique approach. Unlike the conventional practice of drowning suppliers in data requests,
Responsibly offers guidance to suppliers.
Responsibly employs AI to navigate
the vast amount of data within the sustainability sector. Their
analysis covers various factors, such as carbon emissions, gender pay gaps, human rights, and
deforestation. They provide customers with a sustainability data score for their suppliers.
The ultimate goal of Responsibly's
platform is to allow purchasers to quickly access supplier
sustainability and risk data while helping suppliers reduce the resources spent on complying with
data requests. Instead, they can rely on Responsibly's guidance to improve their sustainability
efforts.
Some notable clients of Responsibly
include CERN and Chr. Hansen, a producer of food cultures and
dairy enzymes. The startup has also been recognized by Mastercard as one of the top five
sustainability and social impact startups in Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Estonia. They recently
introduced a free tool that allows anyone to assess ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance)
risk.
Founded in early 2021, Responsibly
is led by Thomas Buch Andersson, a former BCG consultant and
co-founder and COO/CPO of Ofload, a startup focused on reducing the carbon footprint in the trucking
industry. Responsibly aims to streamline the process of collecting sustainability data, enabling
companies to focus more on building sustainable supply chains in compliance with increasing
regulations.
Thomas Buch Andersson further
elaborated on Responsibly's mission, stating, "As more buyers push
suppliers for sustainability data to achieve scope 3 targets or regulatory compliance, we want
companies to spend less time manually collecting sustainability data – which is completely
unscalable – so they can focus on actually making an impact where it matters the most by
building a more sustainable supply chain which complies with increasing regulation."
