Today, we're thrilled to announce that we're taking our commitment to personalization to an entirely new level with the introduction of the DJ.

Are you ready for an entirely fresh way to experience Spotify and connect even more deeply with the artists you cherish? The DJ is your personalized AI guide, a digital companion that understands your musical preferences so intimately that it can effortlessly choose what to play just for you. Initially launched in beta, this feature will not only curate a music lineup tailor-made for your tastes but also provide insightful commentary about the tracks and artists, all delivered in a remarkably realistic voice.

The DJ will explore the latest releases and even take a trip down memory lane, revisiting those old favorites that once had you hitting repeat. It will assess what you might enjoy and offer a continuous stream of songs meticulously selected with your preferences in mind. What's more, it continuously updates its recommendations based on your feedback.

If you find yourself not vibing with the DJ's selections, just tap the DJ button, and it will switch things up for you. The more you interact with the DJ, telling it what you like (and what you don't), the better it becomes at understanding your musical tastes. Think of it as the epitome of Spotify's personalization, but with an AI DJ right in your pocket.

How Our AI DJ Operates

 

To create the DJ, we reimagined how you listen to music on Spotify. The DJ has an intimate knowledge of your musical preferences, scanning the latest releases we're confident you'll enjoy or revisiting those cherished playlists from the past. Your listening experience has never been more personal, thanks to the powerful fusion of the following elements:

 

1. Spotify’s Personalization Technology: This technology provides you with a curated lineup of music recommendations based on your music history and preferences.
   
   

2. Generative AI with OpenAI Technology: Our music editors use this technology to provide you with intriguing insights about the music, artists, or genres you're currently listening to. These editors, who are experts in their respective music genres, offer a level of expertise that's crucial to our philosophy at Spotify.
   
   

3. Dynamic AI Voice Platform from Sonantic: This technology brings to life incredibly realistic voices from text, elevating your experience to a new level of immersion.
   
   

The voice model for the DJ was created in collaboration with Xavier "X" Jernigan, our Head of Cultural Partnerships. X, a former host of Spotify's first personalized morning show, The Get Up, developed a strong connection with our listeners due to his captivating personality and voice. His voice serves as the first model for the DJ, and we will continue to refine and innovate, as we always do with our products.

Where to Find the DJ

Are you excited to have the DJ curate your day with the perfect soundtrack? The feature is now available in English for Spotify Premium users in the U.S. and Canada.

Here's how to access it:

1. Open the Spotify mobile app on your iOS or Android device and navigate to your Music Feed on the Home screen.
   
   

2. Look for the DJ card and tap "Play."
   
   

3. Let Spotify do the rest! The DJ will provide a carefully curated lineup of music and share brief commentary on the songs and artists, all tailored to your tastes.
   
   

4. If you're in the mood for something different, simply hit the DJ button at the bottom right of the screen to explore different genres, artists, or moods.
